Riding Skills Workshop and Intro Ride

Saturday, May 2, 2020 12:00 AM

Are you a rider who would like to start riding on the road or join us on group rides? Perhaps you've ridden a bit on a rail trail, or have limited experience riding on the road or in groups. This workshop and ride would be appropriate for those who know how to ride, but would like to gain skill and confidence with using your gears, how to approach a hill, making turns, taking the lane, signaling, and proper etiquette while riding with a group. We will also do a basic review of the important parts of your bike and gear that can make riding more comfortable.

Enjoy the Beauty of the Shining Sea Bikeway

Wednesday, November 6, 2019 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM

Come Enjoy the beauty of the Shining Sea Bikeway. This is, arguably, the most beautiful path in the state. The Shining Sea Bikeway hugs the coast from Falmouth to Woods Hole and then beyond to North Falmouth, winding along the Vineyard Sound shoreline. Ideal for casual and beginner cyclists, it was built on a former railroad right-of-way. The paved path is level for nearly its entire 10.7-mile distance with only a slight grade in certain spots. Lined with familiar Cape Cod flower and tree species, it makes for a wonderful ride from Falmouth to scenic Woods Hole.

Joan Blaustein

I began leading bike trips for the AMC in 1990 and led for ten years before taking a break. When I became active with the Forty Plus Committee I decided to start leading again. I took a refresher leadership course and Wilderness First Aid and now I am certified as a cross-country ski and bike leader. I have met many wonderful leaders and trip participants and Forty Plus has become one of my most enjoyable retirement activities.
