Lonesome Lake Hut Weekend - Hiking With Children
Lonesome Lake Hut Weekend - Hiking With ChildrenHiking/Backpacking Date: Sat July 20, 2013 - Sun July 21, 2013
This is an excellent opportunity for you and your child to experience a night in the White Mountains. On this 2-day trip, we will explore the trails surrounding Lonesome Lake and the wilderness of Franconia Notch State Park. We will overnight at the Appalachian Mountain Club's Lonesome Lake Hut, the westernmost hut in the New Hampshire chain, which offers wonderful views of Franconia Ridge. Saturday morning begins at the Lafayette Campground parking area with a 1.6 mile trek to the hut. We will select bunks and then continue our adventure exploring the area's terrain and wildlife. Hikes will be tailored for the group and may include portions of the Lonesome Lake Trail, Cascade Brook Trail, and Fishin' Jimmy Trail, to name a few. Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast will be prepared by the hut staff, known as the Croo. Also offered at the hut are naturalist and educational talks for everyone to enjoy. We'll continue on Sunday after breakfast, hiking on varied terrain before descending back to the parking area. This is not a peak-bagging trip - we do not plan to hike to the summit of Cannon or the Kinsmans. Our weekend itinerary will be based on group experience in mostly moderate terrain with occasional steep and/or rough (unexposed) areas. Special note on cost & payment: $130 includes overnight lodging at Lonesome Lake Hut, full dinner and breakfast for both parent and child (12 & under). It must be prepaid to secure your spot for this weekend adventure. There are no refunds within 4 weeks of the trip, although we will try to place someone from our wait list.
