Sandwich Dome (and Jennings Peak, B3B)

Hiking/Backpacking Date: Sun June 16, 2013

The plan is to hike to the top of Sandwich Dome from the Waterville Valley Area via the Drakes Brook Trail. We'll enjoy scenic views and stream crossings in the beautiful Sandwich Range Wilderness Area! We will hike at a moderate pace. The, approximately, 8 mile roundtrip hike will gain about 2800 ft of elevation to the top of Sandwich Dome. The trip should take us between 5 and 6 hours or up to 7 if we include a side trail to Fletcher's Cascade. We could however alter our plans because of fatigue, weather, or other conditions and there is no guarantee we will complete the entire trip as described here. We will ascend Drakes Brook Trail, consider the side trail to Fletcher's Cascade, and then continue on up Drakes Brook until it intersects with Sandwich Mountain Trail. Will take very short spur trail to Jennings Peak and then continue on another mile to top of Sandwich Dome. We'll descend entirely on Sandwich Mountain Trail back to the trailhead. Expect steep trails and rocky terrain at times. We will park at the Visitor Center off Exit 28 on I-93N and carpool over to the trail head if we are not able to find enough spots at the small lot at the trailhead. Meeting time at Visitor Center will be 9:30 with hike to start at 10am EST. Please register at link provided.
