Join leader Chuck Monjak for a scenic bicycle tour of the fingerlake region of NY state. This three day event is being run by the fingerlakes bike club. AMC YM is listing this to facilitate carpool and get the word out to the boston biking community. We will be staying at the Watkins glen state park, a beautiful place to hike, bike and swim. Registration with the fingerlakes bike club is required for this event. The fee is $85 each, is addition to the $5 per night YM fee. Paddling the Dead River on the 3500cfs release (class 3+) Saturday and the 2400cfs release (class 3+) Sunday. Camping and shuttle to the river will be arranged.(approx $50 pp)
Hike up the steep Caps Ridge Trail and traverse above tree line to Lakes of the Clouds Hut. Mt Washington ascent possible. Sunday hike out over the open ridge to top out over Mt Eisenhower with hopefully more far reaching views. Strenuous hike . Fee $125.39 includes dinner, bunk, breakfast.
Join us as we backpack a 20 mile stretch of the northern Long Trail. We will drive up on Friday night, and then over the next two days hike some twenty miles on the northern end of the Long Trail, crossing over the summits of Butternut and Laraway Mountains, with an overnight stay overnight at Corliss Camp. Slow-paced nature walk looking for late spring wildflowers. Focus on plant ID and fun natural history. 12:30pm - 3:30pm. From Rte. 95/128 exit 33A, take Rte. 3 S 3 mi., L on Pond St. 0.8 mi. to pkg. lot on L. Arrive early, parking limited. Steady rain cancels. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
1:00pm. Explore this large and pretty area of various conservation lands, including a number of beaver ponds, meadows, and upland forest. Meet at the Crystal Spring parking area on the west side of Old Dunstable Road at 42.63118N 71.51023W. About 2 hours, maybe some bushwhacking.
Let's take advantage of the long day and hike a remote NHFF peak. We'll follow the classic route via the Rocky Branch, Isolation, and Davis Path Trails. 14.5 Miles & 3,750 Ft
Join us for a late-spring hike with beautiful views of the ocean, the hills, and the city of Boston. We'll spot cars and do about 8 miles of the trail, heading east from Route 138 (Blue Hill Avenue) in Milton to Route 37 (Willard Street) in Quincy. Register w/CL Wendy Fox.
Come to Concord and practice group riding skills. We will be pedaling around 15 miles or so through the lovely towns of Concord and Carlisle. Let's meet at 9AM in Concord center (Momument Square) across the street from the town hall. We will leave at 9:15 am. Let's start the ride early while there is not much traffic on the road. You should have a helmet and bike in good working condition. Rain cancels the ride. We might plan on getting together for lunch or ice cream after the ride. Leader: Lamar Winters (5089027490)
Join us for a hike with views of the Boston Skyline and the harbor. Fun for kids of all ages with a few easy rock scrambles. Hike meets at 1:30pm and will be about two hours. Moderate to strenuous 5-6 mile hike on Skyline and other trails w/some steep hills. Although the pace will be moderate, this hike will be a workout. Not for beginners. 10:00am-2:00pm. Bring lunch/water/sturdy footwear. Meet Shea Ice Rink, Willard St. From SE Expwy, Exit 8 (Quincy), go S (Willard St.) 0.6 mi. Or from Rte. 93/128 Exit 6 (Braintree), go N 0.7 mi. Come join us as we hike to Walden Pond from Mount Misery on Sunday. Walden Pond State Reservation is one of the most popular parks in Massachusetts, but many visitors do not venture far from the main beach at the park's entrance. We'll hike to the "back side" of the pond from Mount Misery past Fairhaven Bay and then spend an hour or two eating lunch, relaxing and going for a swim (weather permitting). The lunch will be a "potluck" so please bring something to share with the group (either homemade or store bought).
Moderately paced 50 miler through quiet country roads an hour west of Boston. We will stop three times to regroup in Winchendon, Templeton (ice cream) and Hubbardston. Route starts at Wachusetts Ski Area parking lot marked on the map. Those who need more of a workout or finish ahead of the leaders can do a lap up the Wachusetts auto road, an extra 900 ft climb.
