Newcastle Island Circumnavigation

Paddling Date: Sat April 18, 2015

Kick the paddling season off with a Level 2+ (potential winter conditions/current) paddle around Newcastle Island at the mouth of the Piscataquis River in Portsmouth, NH. This scenic trip was featured in a Sea Kayak magazine article. Depending upon sea state and temps a side trip to Whaleback Light will be included. Points of interest in addition to the light are Fort Constitution, NH Coast Guard Station, Fort Stark, Historic Wentworth Hotel and numerous Little Harbor/Back Channel inner islands. Must have proper cold water gear (Dry/Full Wet Suit), Good physical condition, minimum 14 ft sea kayak with bulkheads/floatation and self/assisted rescue skills) Registration required. No fee. Launch info will be provided to registered paddlers.

AMC Sea Kayak Leader's Tune Up

The training on Sunday will include: pre-launch briefing, navigation, group cohesion, safety, and leadership, and will take place in Boston Harbor.

Experience the excitement of whitewater kayaking in a fun and supportive environment with an outstanding group of paddlers. Students will learn basic kayak strokes, maneuvers, and water safety skills on a local pond in Concord, then travel to the river during a weekend trip for a two-day instructional trip on Class 1-2 whitewater. Beginner Instructionals are taught in accordance to American Canoe Association (ACA) standards for Whitewater Kayaking. Students must be comfortable on and in the water and able to transport their own gear. Dates: June 9,10, 13-14 Tuition: $150/$170, Member/Non-Members. Ipswich River Paddle

Paddling Date: Sun June 21, 2015

Meet at 9:00 AM on Sunday morning at the Topsfield Fairgrounds PARKING LOT Entrance on Rt. 1 in Topsfield MA. If you are coming from the south, take Rt. 95 to Rt. 1 in Topsfield. Continue driving north on Rt. 1. You go down a long hill to the bottom where Rt. 1 crosses the Ipswich River. It is not obvious that you have crossed the Ipswich River, look carefully. Immediately ahead on the right is the Fair Grounds Parking Lot Entrance. You should see a number of vehicles there with canoes on the roof.
We will shuttle to the launch, which is on Rowley Bridge road. Then we shuttle the vehicles to the take out which is at the Bradley Palmer State Forest.
We get on the river by 10:00 am and take out about 3:30 to 4:00 pm.
Bring: canoe or kayak, lunch, drink, water, sun screen, bug repellent, EYEGLASSES RETAINER STRAP, sun hat, life jacket
If you need a boat, please let the leaders know ASAP. If you want to car pool please let the leaders know ASAP.

Kayak Pond Rolling Clinic

Tired of seeing those rapids at eye-level? Embarrassed about those scratches on the DECK of your boat? Spend two evenings on a local pond and learn to roll your whitewater kayak-the skill most likely to boost your paddling confidence and level of safety! Participants should be prepared to be in the water 2 hours per session. This clinic is for whitewater kayakers only. Graduates of this year's Beginner Kayak Instructionals will get first priority for enrollment. Please specify any previous rolling experience or rolling requests when registering. Dates: July 21, 23. Acadia/Bar Harbor Camping Trip

Paddling Date: Mon July 27, 2015 - Fri July 31, 2015

Pack your kayak and camping gear for a week of paddling in one of the premier scenic park areas in the nation. We will set up base camp at Hadley's campground in Bar Harbor. From Hadley's we will run sea kayak day trips to the Porcupine Islands, Cranberry Islands and the Ovens. We will also partner with Pinniped Kayak Adventures to provide non-AMC group skill trips to Sullivan Falls (Wed 29th) for current/surfing play and Rocks and Ledges play (Fri 31st). You will need to make your own reservations for camping (http://www.hadleyspoint.com/) and Pinniped kayaking (www.pinnipedkayak.com). Level 2 sea kayak equipment, skills and registration is required. Mention you are with the Boston AMC Sea Kayaking group at the Hadley's and Pinniped Kayaking after registering with the AMC.
