Acadia/Bar Harbor Camping Trip

Paddling Date: Mon July 27, 2015 - Fri July 31, 2015

Pack your kayak and camping gear for a week of paddling in one of the premier scenic park areas in the nation. We will set up base camp at Hadley's campground in Bar Harbor. From Hadley's we will run sea kayak day trips to the Porcupine Islands, Cranberry Islands and the Ovens. We will also partner with Pinniped Kayak Adventures to provide non-AMC group skill trips to Sullivan Falls (Wed 29th) for current/surfing play and Rocks and Ledges play (Fri 31st). You will need to make your own reservations for camping (http://www.hadleyspoint.com/) and Pinniped kayaking (www.pinnipedkayak.com). Level 2 sea kayak equipment, skills and registration is required. Mention you are with the Boston AMC Sea Kayaking group at the Hadley's and Pinniped Kayaking after registering with the AMC.

Seakayaking Great Bay, Stratham, NH, Moonlight Paddle

Enjoy a moonlight paddle on Great Bay. We'll paddle out into Great Bay and stop at Footman island to stretch our legs and enjoy the quiet serenity of the bay, then we'll paddle up to Adams Point before returning to the put-in.
Must have own seakayak, PFD, skirt, paddle and visibility lights.

Salem Sound L2

Paddling Date: Sat August 1, 2015

We'll paddle out of Marblehead Harbor to Great Misery Island. This is an L2 trip and will require a boat at least 14 feet long, with bulkheads or with flotation bags. We'll spend some time on Misery Island swimming and walking the trails. Pack a lunch, towel and sunscreen and your Trustees of the Reservation membership card or $5 for the landing fee.

Launch location and time will be provided to registered paddlers.

Pond Socials for Paddlers

Come to our Wednesday evening (5:30 pm - dark, thru Sept 16) pond socials! These are informal get-togethers at a pond in Concord (near Walden Pond) to practice paddling skills, roll whitewater kayaks and play around.
Everyone is welcome to join us with their own boat! We have WW kayak rentals for $10. You must be able to transport the kayak from the boathouse to the pond and back (approx. 5 miles).
This is NOT an instructional/ class and knowledge of basic boating skills are necessary including demonstrating a wet exit before paddling on the pond (you will flip the kayak over and exit from under the water.) Pizza social at a local restaurant after for those interested! Contact registrar with any questions.

Dead River Class 3 Whitewater

A summer favorite! The Dead River is an all day paddle along 15miles of continuous whitewater in a wilderness location. Saturday 2400cfs, Sunday1800 cfs
Camp for the weekend, and take a local shuttle to the put-in. Suitable for experienced paddlers with a Class lll rating; kayakers require a combat roll for this trip.
To signup, contact leaders and provide a short summary of your paddling experience, including if you have paddled on the Dead River previously, and if so, list the water level.

Adventures on the MITA Trail : Upper Casco Bay

Casco Bay near Portland can be a busy place during summer, but upper Casco (separated by Harpswell peninsula) is quieter and out of the way for most paddlers. We plan to camp on 2 different islands over 3 days, paddling 10-14 miles per day. This is a level 3 trip. Participants are expected to have some experience packing, maneuvering, and landing a loaded boat. There will be some open water paddling, but much of this trip will be on protected, tidal rivers (and tidal currents as well). See hyperlink below for description of level 3.

Introduction to Sea Kayaking, Part 3 - Wind, Waves, and Current

The third part of the 3 part series Introduction to Sea Kayaking. This session will concentrate on paddling in conditions. Techniques for handling wind, waves, and current will be emphasized such as edging, asymmetric paddling, ruddering, crossing eddy lines, and the proper use of skeg in wind. Preference given to those who completed Parts 1 and 2. This session will be more advanced and requires good intermediate skills. Possible venues are Cohasset Harbor or Woods Hole, depending on the group and the weather.
