Slow-paced nature walk in search of a variety of early spring wild flowers and other signs of spring. The walk will focus on plant ID and natural history. 12:30-3:30pm. From Concord rotary, take Rte. 2 west for 2.2 mi. R on Taylor Rd. 0.7 mi. to Arboretum on R. (Note: Sign faces opposite direction.) Steady rain cancels. No dogs; non-AMC members $1. Boot Boutwell is a freelance itinerant naturalist who teaches and leads nature walks for Mass Audubon - Habitat, The New England Wild Flower Society, the Winchester Public Schools, the Friends of the Middlesex Fells, the AMC and other organizations.
Hike to cliff-top, waterfall and pond views, 10:00am-2:15pm. Bring lunch and water. Meet on Washington Street side of Oak Grove T station. I-93 Exit 32, Medford, head east on Route 60 for 1.2 miles, then turn left on Highland Avenue and follow for 0.5 miles. Turn right on Glenwood Street and go 0.6 miles, then turn left on Washington Street and go 0.1 miles, then turn right into T station lot, or park on street. Call L if severe weather. No dogs. 3-mi. level history walk will follow the route of the Middlesex Canal through parts of Medford and Winchester. Sites along the way include the aqueduct and mooring basin, those segments of the canal bed and berm visible off the parkway, and the stone wall of the Governor Brooks estate, in Medford. Meet 1:30pm at Sandy (Shannon) Beach lot at Upper Mystic Lake on Mystic Valley Pkwy., 1.3 mi. N of Rte. 60. Joint w/M'sex Canal Assoc. 9am-4pm. 10-mi. mod. hike from Moose Hill in Sharon to High Rock in Foxboro. Bring lunch & water. We will spot cars before the hike. Meet at High Rock Rd (sign). Turn onto High Rock Rd. (paved woods road) 300 yds S of MOM South Motorcycles, 1000 Washington St. (Rte. 1), Foxboro. No dogs; non-AMC $1.
5-mile walk along Neponset River to Hutchinson Field, 9:30am-12:15pm. Bring snack. Meet at Hallet Street entrance to Pope John Paul II Park. From Route 93N, take exit 11 (11B from Route 93S) to Granite Avenue, north over Neponset River, immediate right on Hilltop Street, right under bridge into parking lot. E-mail if severe weather. Bird walk to look for migrating woodland and water birds, 8-10am. Bring binocs & bird book. From Rte. 2 in Acton take Rte. 27 North about 1 mile. After monument in Acton Center, turn left on Nagog Hill Road. Nagog Hill parking lot is 0.9 miles on the right. Heavy rain cancels.
10 miles. [70+ temp. may lessen distance.] Meet at 10am in Lincoln RR commuter pkg. lot. From Rte.95/128 take exit 28 in Waltham , follow Trapelo Rd. W 2.5 mi., L on Lincoln Rd. 1.4 mi., R just before tracks into RR station lot. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
Steep climb to open summit with great views. About 5 miles round trip at easy pace. Bring lunch, water, appropriate clothing and boots. Meet 9:30am at Lincoln RR station for carpool. From Rte.95/128 take exit 28 in Waltham, follow Trapelo Rd. W 2.5 mi., L on Lincoln Rd. 1.4 mi., R just before tracks into RR station lot. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
9:15am. 140 Warren Ave. Plymouth. Rte. 3, exit 4 (Left exit). 1.8 miles take Left to 3A North. 0.5 miles to Bert's restaurant on right. Take gravel road on left of driveway. Park on right at beach. Bring lunch, water, snacks. Optional ice cream stop in Plymouth Center after walk. Rain cancels.
6-mi. hike, woods trails, Moyle's quarry, 9am-2pm. Bring lunch & water. Meet at Visitor Ctr. ($2 parking fee). From Rte. 95 exit 8 in Sharon take S. Main St. 3.3 mi. to Sharon Ctr., R at light, immed. R on Pond St. 4.4 mi. (becomes Massapoag Ave.) to park entr. on L.
5-6-mile circuit with Wellesley College greenhouses and campus, Lake Waban, Charles River, brooks and aqueducts. 11:00am. Bring lunch. Meet at Wellesley College Greenhouses. Route 16W from Wellesley Center to campus entrance; right into campus, right to East Campus/Science Center and parking lot. Rain cancels. No dogs. Non-AMC members $1.
Beginner's bird walk 3 miles through Fowl Meadow, 7-10:30 am. Learn to bird. See both common and rare bird species at the height of spring migration in the best birding area in the Blue Hills Reservation. Bring your binoculars and a bird book if you have one. From Route 93/128 Exit 2B, take Route 138 north 1.7 miles, turn left on Neponset Valley Parkway and go 0.5 miles to the small lot at Brush Hill Road. Joint with Friends of the Blue Hills. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
9am-5pm. 15-mi. mod. hike from Edge Hill Rd. in Sharon to High Rock in Foxboro. Bring lunch & water. We will spot cars before the hike. Meet at High Rock Rd. (sign). Turn onto High Rock Rd. 4 mi. mod.-paced hike, 10:30am-1:30pm. Bring lunch+water. I-93/Rte 128 exit 2A to Rte.138S for 0.7 mi. to Ponkapoag Golf Course pkg lot on L. Storm cancels. No dogs; non-AMC $1.
9:30am-2:30pm. Meet at Grassy Hill parking lot off Nagog Hill Rd, Acton (see links below), S side of Nagog Hill Rd. From Rte.2, exit Rte.27 N toward Acton for 1.1mi., L Nagog Hill Rd. for 1.2mi to Grassy Pond pkg. area on L. This 7½ mi. route wanders through a portion of Acton's Nagog Hill area, hugs the shore of Nagog Pond, loops through the hilly Sarah Doublet area in Littleton where we plan to have lunch and offer an optional excursion to Fort Pond via a short spur trail. Our return covers the remaining portion of Nagog Pond. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.

Leisurely 4-mi. walk along historic streets around Harvard and Porter Squares and Huron Village , 6:45-8:45pm. Bring snack. Meet outside of Brattle Theatre (lower level). From Harvard Square T Stop, go 1 block west on Eliot Street; take right on Brattle Street (theatre is on the left). Storm cancels. No dogs; non-AMC members $1. Wear appropriate footwear for conditions.
6-mile. hike, some rocky steep hills to cliff views including waterfall w/lunch at pond, Moderate-rated hike, not for beginners. 10:00am-2:30pm. Bring lunch/water/hiking shoes. Meet on Washington St. side of Oak Grove T sta. From Rte. 93 exit 32 in Medford take Rte. 60 E 1.2 mi., L on Highland Ave. 0.5 mi., R on Glenwood St. 0.6 mi., L on Wash. St. 0.1 mi., R into T sta. lot (fee) or park on street. Email if severe weather. No dogs. Non-AMC members $1.
9:30am-12:00pm. Meet at the large parking lot across from The Wayside Inn, Sudbury MA. 128S to Rte. 20W. Go about 12 miles until you see the signs for The Wayside Inn. Wear long pants, sturdy waterproof shoes, since it may still be soggy. Bring water and snacks. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
