A rugged, scenic loop of 6.5mi. via Ted's & Carolyn's trails. 9:30am-2:30pm. From Nashua, NH, take Rte. 101A west toward Milford, NH. Blend onto Rte. 101 west toward Wilton, NH. Head north toward Lyndeboro on Rte. 31 and turn left ~8mi. on Russell Station Rd. (look for the Trebuchet Adventure Park on the right and Trojan Horse on the left by this intersection). Continue to Mountain Rd. and turn right ~0.5mi. to parking in a small alcove on the right opposite trailhead. Storm cancels. No dogs, non-AMC members $1.
Meet 10:00am on trail crossing at 4H Club horse barns near Buck Hill in Spencer [GPS 42.296125 - 71.982061]. Leave some cars here and shuttle to East Hill Road off Pleasantdale Road in Rutland. Hike south 5.2 miles around Treasure Valley and by Thompson Pond. Rolling terrain and moderate difficulty. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
Moderate-rated hike, not for beginners. 6.5-mi. loop hike with a number of steep hills, 10am-3pm, mainly on Skyline Trail, lunch on Nahanton Hill with great view, bring lunch, water and sturdy hiking shoes. Fast-paced 7-mile hike to lesser-known hills in the western Fells. 9:30am-1:30pm. Bring lunch and sturdy footgear. From Route 93, take exit 33 in Medford, go west on South Border Road toward Winchester; two miles to paved Long Pond lot on the right. Rain cancels. No dogs. Non-AMC members $1.
Meet at 1:00pm near where trail crosses Route 9 in Spencer at Spencer Country Inn [near 412 Main Street, GPS 42.255979 - 71.956709]. Leave some cars here and shuttle to McCormack Road by 4-H Club horse barns near Buck Hill. Hike south over Moose Hill and across Moose Hill Reservoir dam back to Route 9, 6 miles moderate pace over short, steep hills.
Moderate hike to Mt Misery/Fairhaven Bay, 9:30am-2:30pm. Bring lunch/water/sturdy footwear. Meet Lincoln RR Station. Rte. 95/128 exit 28, take Trapelo Rd. W 2.5 mi. to stop. L onto Lincoln Rd. 1.3 mi. to Lincoln RR sta. pkg. on R before tracks. Heavy rain cancels. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
Meet 10:00am in Spencer where trail crosses near corner of Ash Street and East Charlton Road [near 160 Ash Street, GPS 42.218513 - 71.980095]. Leave some cars here and shuttle to Route 9 at Spencer Country Inn. Walk south by Audubon land and horse farms, 5.3 miles, back to Ash Street corner.
5-mile hike, 9:30-11:45am on abandoned cranberry bog, sandy trails featuring open water and marshland. From Rte. 27 in Hanson, Pleasant Street for 0.2 mi., take sharp right to Hawks Ave. across the tracks, left on dirt road at fence, past building to trailhead. GeoCode N 42 01 49.1 W 70 51 32.3. Bring water and snack and wear appropriate footwear. No dogs, $1 fee for non-AMC members.
Slow paced nature walk looking for late summer wildflowers and fruits. Focus on plant ID and fun natural history. 9:00am-noon. From Rte 95/128 Exit 33A take Rte 3 South for 3 miles. Left on Pond St. 0.8 miles to parking lot on left. Parking limited, arrive early. Steady rain cancels. No dogs; non-AMC members $1.
1:00pm. Come explore the Rocky Hill section of the NEFF Wharton Plantation and adjoining conservation lands. This features streams, beaver ponds, upland forest, and all-around pretty woods. Meet at the Dan Parker Rd. entrance on Rocky Hill Rd, 42.62776N 71.52350W. About 2 hours.
Meet 9:00am where trail crosses Route 20 in Charlton [near 8 Old Worcester Road, GPS 42.146294 - 71.937780]. Leave some cars here and drive to parking turn-off on Ash Street in Spencer. From here hike south 6.4 miles, ending with walk through cow tunnel under Route 20.
