Sleeping
set-up/rooming assignments
At the last
minute (when it’s clear exactly who will be coming) we will decide who sleeps
where. If you arrive before one of the leaders please wait ‘til we get there to
claim a spot. There are several large rooms with multiple beds that are often
used as group sleeping for the kids (boys and girls separated, of course…).
There are also several smaller rooms that have been pre-booked as private family
rooms. Groups are fluid and last minute changes in sleeping plans are common!
Plans and
schedules:
On our
arrival day, we will have a light supper available (Pasta or frozen pizza or
similar) around 7pm – please confirm whether you plan to be there for supper.
Other days
people will doubtless fan out to Black Mountain (for XC, tubing or novice level
DH skiing and snowboarding), Mt. Blue State Park, Carters XC or to one of the DH
ski areas in the region. We’ll serve breakfast; lay out lunch provisions so you
can pack sandwiches to take with you. We may plan a group event or excursion on
one or more these will be dependent on weather and group desires.
On the last
day we need to vacate our sleeping rooms, do a general clean up and wash sheets
etc for the incoming group but don’t need to rush out of the house because the
next group is also an AMC Family outings group… so you can take your time
before heading South and back to reality.
Chores:
We will have
sign up sheets available indicating how many jobs (cooking, cleaning, shopping
etc) you should take on over the course of the trip. Everyone age 10 & up
should sign up for appropriate tasks and the younger kids should be roped in to
assist where needed (and should be held accountable for keeping their sleeping
areas moderately tidy). Try to work with people outside your own family; it’s a
great way to get to know others in the group.
Directions:
Take I-95 North through NH to
the Maine border. (I-95 becomes the Maine Turnpike - toll road).
At exit 9, I-95 veers off. Stay
on the Maine Turnpike
(now I-495 but it doesn’t say that right away) – 23 miles.
At exit 12, bear left after the
toll booth onto US 202 connector – sign says:
"US-202 / ME-4/ME-100 to
Farmington / Rumford / Rangeley / Mechanic Falls"
Turn left on ME-4 and take it
approx. 25 miles
Turn left onto SR-108 - 11.1
miles passing through Canton (don’t blink) to E. Peru.
Turn Left onto Greenwoods Road
(the street sign says Green Woods Road) and
there is a sign that says Worthley Pond on the right side of 108.
A little way in, the road
forks. Bear left onto Shore Road (aka “Worthley Pond Road”).
You will cross a little bridge
and pass a general store on your left – the pond will be on your right. The farm
is about ¼ mile beyond the store on the right between the road and the pond.
There is a large barn on the left end of the house with a sign that says you’ve
arrived. |
