In Sri Lanka, David switches to the bike as the main mode of transportation (for a while anyway), exploring the coast, unique wildlife, rainforests, and tea plantations.

Potluck & Slideshow - Chuck & Ted's Excellent Bugaboo Climbing Adventure

Wednesday, January 11, 2017
6:15 PM to 9:00 PM

Bugaboo Provincial Park, situated in the Purcell Mountains of southeast British Columbia, draws climbers from around the world to its airy, glacier-sculpted granite spires. With many peaks over 3,000 metres in elevation the Bugaboo's offer awe inspiring mountain and glacier terrain and are world famous for multi-pitch trad climbs on granite spires that tower above a glaciated world below. Hiking trails are few. Inexperienced or ill-equipped climbers and hikers should forego a visit here in favor of less demanding areas of the province.

Potluck & Slideshow: Lessons Learned from Climbing the 7 Highest Summits & More

Wednesday, April 12, 2017
6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Have you ever wondered what's it like to stand on the summit of Mount Everest, and what's on the climber's mind? Or what it's like to tread through the blinding whiteness in minus 50 degrees in Antarctica day after day? This person, Lei Wang, grew up as an un-athletic book-nerd who considered walking a few blocks in the city during her first winter in Boston a daunting adventure. Lei is also the first Asian-American to climb the highest peak on all seven continents, including Mount Everest, and to ski to the North and South poles.

Potluck & Slideshow: Aotearoa, Biking the Land of the Long White Cloud

Tuesday, February 7, 2017
6:15 PM to 9:00 PM

At the end of 2015, Deborah Holt was looking for a place to celebrate her retirement. After eliminating two other possibilities (Japan and The Philippines), she and a friend settled on biking through New Zealand for a month. Join us at the AMC Boston Slideshow Series to learn why New Zealand was an excellent choice for Deborah, about her route planning, her bike, bike gear and the challenges and joys of the experience. Deborah will compress a month on the road into an hour or so to give a sense of the landscape, people and culture observed from two wheels.

Section Hiking the Camino De Santiago - Potluck and Slideshow

Thursday, November 10, 2016
6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) in Santiago de Compostela in north-west Spain. While some take 4 weeks to walk the Camino de Santiago, Chris and Colin McArdle took 4 years! They began with reservations and bag service, but soon discarded these in favor of a sheet bag and change of clothes, stopping at will each year at hostels along the 500 mile path.
