Boston Rock Climbing Program

Wednesday, March 15, 2017 12:00 AM to Sunday, May 7, 2017 12:00 AM

Rock climbing provides the exhilaration of conquering a crag, but also the puzzle of figuring out a sequence of moves to climb a difficult section. You can experience the rewards and challenges of rock climbing by taking the Boston Mountaineering Committee's Rock Climbing Program! This program covers the basic skills to climb safely: toprope anchor building, belaying, ascending, and rappelling. The emphasis of the course is learning to safely follow a leader on multipitch trad climbs. No prior experience is necessary.

Potluck & Slideshow: Climbing Mont Blanc & Via Ferrata

Wednesday, March 22, 2017
6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Join us to experience Stephen Najarian's two most recent adventures in one slideshow. The first is climbing chimneys, mountain peaks, valleys, ladders and the via-Ferrata (the Iron Way) while exploring World War I caves and trench warfare sites and the Refugi's (Huts) system. The second adventure includes the view of the Valley of Sports in Chamonix, France from the mighty summit of Mont Blanc. My wish is that this presentation will inspire you to leave a new trail on your next adventure.

Potluck & Slideshow - Chuck & Ted's Excellent Bugaboo Climbing Adventure

Wednesday, January 11, 2017
6:15 PM to 9:00 PM

Bugaboo Provincial Park, situated in the Purcell Mountains of southeast British Columbia, draws climbers from around the world to its airy, glacier-sculpted granite spires. With many peaks over 3,000 metres in elevation the Bugaboo's offer awe inspiring mountain and glacier terrain and are world famous for multi-pitch trad climbs on granite spires that tower above a glaciated world below. Hiking trails are few. Inexperienced or ill-equipped climbers and hikers should forego a visit here in favor of less demanding areas of the province.

Potluck & Slideshow: Lessons Learned from Climbing the 7 Highest Summits & More

Wednesday, April 12, 2017
6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Have you ever wondered what's it like to stand on the summit of Mount Everest, and what's on the climber's mind? Or what it's like to tread through the blinding whiteness in minus 50 degrees in Antarctica day after day? This person, Lei Wang, grew up as an un-athletic book-nerd who considered walking a few blocks in the city during her first winter in Boston a daunting adventure. Lei is also the first Asian-American to climb the highest peak on all seven continents, including Mount Everest, and to ski to the North and South poles.
